FriendlyARM 2440 is not detected on PC.

prasoon patel
My FriendlyARM mini2440 is not detected on my pc.

I have installed windows7 64bit. I also installed a 64bit driver which i
found in fourm.

Only power led is glowing o my board. and LCD is also not getting power up.

Please help me what i have do now?

davef
1) Have you installed a bootable kernel and root file system on the
mini2440? SD card?

2) you will find it very useful to connect the serial comms port to to your
PC and using minicom watch your bootup messages.

Gautam
Hi Prasoon,

1. Check if the boot switch is in NOR position

2. Open Windows Device Manager and see if USB hub shows Mini2440 device.

3. The Win 64-bit driver may not be digitally signed or it may be
Test-Signed. In that case, you will need to allow Windows to allow
Test-Signed drivers.

To do this, hit F8 repeatedly at BIOS stage while booting up. In the menu
that comes up choose the option:
       "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"

Hope that helps.

Hi Gautam,

I have tried both NOR and NAND Boot. but device not detecting.

And if talk about Device Manager, driver role comes after detecting the
device. but in my case device is not detected. then i can't do any thing
related drivers right now.

is there any other solution ????

Prasoon
Hi davef,

I didn't install a bootable kernel and root file system on the
mini2440 using SD Card. Actually i don't know.

Can you give instructions related to it.

One thing, I want to share with you that, board was working very well
before this problem. I haven't use the sd card approach. I used only NAND
and NOR memory to install boot loaders and kernels. I think i did corrupt
the firmware of mini 2440.

May be you can relate the problem with this.

davef
I still suggest connecting the mini2440 to the PC using a "cross-over"
RS232 cable (the one that comes with the mini2440 kit) to the DB9 connector
on the mini2440, then to a RS232/USB adapter and lastly to a USB port on
the PC.

Running a terminal program and with the NOR/NAND switch in the NAND
position watch the boot-up messages.

prasoon
Hi davef,

No boot-up messages are showing on terminal.

davef
Maybe try the NOR position. If nothing, it is starting to sound like you
will have to start at "square one".

Search for Jtagingthenor.pfd on www.andahammer.com

Good luck!

Gautam
Prasoon,

Can you see one LED on and one blinking when the boot switch is in the NOR
position? If they are, then your board (and the bootloader on it) are OK.
You will then need to ensure that the USB driver for the board is installed
correctly.

When you connect the USB cable between your PC and board, you should see
"USB:OK" in the title bar of the DNW utility which is used to download the
kernel. Check this too. Make sure that the Device Manager does not report
any yellow (!) sign on the board's device icon.

Cheers,

Gautam

Hi Gautam,

I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS. I installed the USB downloader attached by
you in another thread. I installed by Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
option by hitting F8 on Windows bootup.
But when I connect the board with USB cable and RS232 cable with USb
converter with PC and powered on with NOR switch mode.
Then when checking in the Device Manager the it shows yellow (!) sign on
the board's device icon. How to solve that problem?
I am not getting boot menu in the DNW application.
Also I think I don't get USB:OK and only the baud rate value like
COM1:115200 was shown. How to solve this?

Please help.

Hi Gautam,

Now USB:OK is showing and Device manager not showing yellow icon for
mini2440 device. The reason is every time I boot into Windows I have to
Disable Driver signature Enforcement by pressing F8 and selecting that
option.

But now I dont get supervivi bios menu. More details of my setup is in the
thread:

http://www.friendlyarm.net/forum/topic/6620#lastpost

Supervivi and DNW application were got along with the DVD of mini2440 which
I bought 5 years back.

Please help.

Regards,
Ayyappan M.

davef
I would suggest starting at my first post on this thread.

Post your boot messages.

Ayyappan Mk
Hi davef,

I have erased everything and flashed supervivi-128 MB alone in Nor Flash.
But in Linux after making the necessary settings in minicom by :
minicom -s and after I tried to save by selecting Save Setup as dfl it
prompted "Cannot write to /etc/minicom/minirc.dfl". Few months back I
flashed Uboot.bin in the Nor flash and rebooted with NOR mode. it did not
show the Uboot prompt in the PC.

Regards,
Ayyappan M

davef
First you have got to get minicom sorted. Maybe try:

sudo minicom -s then try and save your configuration.

I have never heard of anyone putting u-boot into NOR. How did you do that?

davef
http://bill.station51.net/?post/2010/01/16/U-Boot-on-Mini2440

u-boot into Nand ... using Supervivi in NOR to do the 1st stage bootloading

Ayyappan Mk
Hi davef,

sudo minicom -s worked and I am able to see the Supervivi Bios menu too.

But now I need latest working USB download tool for Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit OS.

Please give any reference for that.

Thanks,
Ayyappan M.

davef
You are not answering my questions.

It looks like you never put u-boot into NOR.

Search the forum for <usbpush>

http://www.friendlyarm.net/forum/topic/6409

Ayyappan Mk
Hi davef,

I put Uboot.bin in NOR thru H-jtag long back without knowing the hardware
(circuit) architecture and working of mini2440. But then realized as it did
not work and recently I have replaced uboot.bin in NOR with
Supervivi-128MB. Now with supervivi in NOR I am able to see the supervivi
bios menu when connected by adding sudo for minicom command in terminal.

But in Windows 7 64 bit OS I am not getting the bios menu in dnw
application. Sometimes in the device manager I am getting Unknown Device or
Friendly ARM mini2440/Micro... with yellow exclamation mark icon and
sometimes it is showing in device manager without yellow exclamation mark
icon. Every time before I boot Windows 7 I am disabling driver Signature
Enforcement. Although it is not consistent. So decided to work in Ubuntu
Linux OS.

So only I asked for latest working USB download tool for Ubuntu.

Thanks,
Ayyappan M

Prasoon
Hi All,

As you know my issue in the above thread, Now i want to know how to fully
erase mini 2440 board and again download fresh bootloader and other
recommended firmwares.

For your information i can't do it from my pc because it is not detected so
is there any other options like SD card. (Only power led is on, and
blinking not happens in any mode (NOR/NAND) on my board)
