Qtopia Icon issue - language

I have the mini2440 with 128M NAND flash and the 3.5" newer LCD screen.

I've re-flashed the image into NAND but in all cases, I get the Qtopia
application icons with Chinese characters. I select English U.S. as the
language and I've searched through the various ".desktop" files but I can't
see how to change the titles on the icons.Is there a setting somewhere that
will cause the icon labels to display in English? My buddy has his up and
it displays in English (which is funny since he's Chinese! He does help
with translating but it's at a great expense of him teasing me).

Only the icon titles are in Chinese, once an app is opened, it is all in
English.

I have no idea how I changed the language. Qtopia comes up first with the
calibration screen, then it asks for the language followed by the timezone.
Once that's done up it comes in Chinese.
