nanopi-2 missing wlan0

Hello,  I am getting started with a new nanopi-2 with LCD bundle.
I am running Debian image nanopi2-debian-sd4g.img downloaded from the
goggle dive.
It is debian version:

Linux FriendlyARM 3.4.39-FriendlyARM-gb2c8f02 #2 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jan 8
17:00:04 HKT 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux

after initial boot, running:

ip add show

displays loopback (lo) usb (usb0)  sit0, ip6tnl0.
However, I don't see a wlan0.

The wifi module does not appear to be working.
Is there a way to get it to turn on?
