About all I can see is that both SMS modules looks professionally made. 
Maybe Google would help here.

Datasheet does not look helpful

Another issue is, I don't see any kernel configuration happening in the
first article.  Having had a go at PPP myself I would expect a special
kernel config file.

Then you really want the source code of the applications as well.

Unless someone has wrapped all the required work up into a tutorial, it is
going to be a BIG difficult task.
