mini2440 self restart

Weez
Hi guys,

there is a strange thing going on on my mini2440. Sometimes when I reset it
with the reset button or just turn it on with the power switch, mini2440
boots up and after few seconds it suddenly restarts itself, sometimes even
a couple of times. What could be the reason?

Thanks!

for example: weak power supply

Weez
I don't think it is the power supply.

I use the 5v / 1,2A power supply and sometimes a 5V / 2A and had the same
problem on several minis.

Anyone had similar problems?

Yes. With weak power supplies.

@Weez
Do you have a display connected to the mini2440?

Weez
Hi Andreas,

yes, I have the X35 display connected to my mini. So I understand it has
something to do with it?

Andreas Watterott
Then the 5V / 1.2A power supply has enough power.
Check the cable, connector and measure if there are really 5V on the board.

Hi Weez,

I think your problem is about watchdog. Timeout parameter is 60 second
default and if your boot time longer than 60, self reset appears. I had
same problem and I solved with adding this line to the rcS file;

echo -n V > /dev/watchdog

It cancels the watchdog, good luck...

Weez
Hi Mocugo,

your solution seems to be interesting. I checked my boards many times and
there was everything ok with the connectors, power supply, the current...

I will definitely try this out and I hope it will work! Thanks for your
help!

arges
can I change the WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT param.

my mini2440 has the same problem, but canceling the watchdog is not useful.
Dear Weez did you find the final solution?

Hello Weez,

your problem is an weak power supply.I had the same problems as you.If you
have connected Network, Sound, Display and SDCard at the same time so you
need an power supply with 5 Volts and 2 Ampere current better is more than
2 Ampere.I've take an 5V and 3 Ampere current powersupply and the problem
was gone.If the board worked very hard so i've measured 2.4 Ampere at 5V
(all components are connected).
