WINCE License

matt_damon
Hello,

Does the precompiled WINCE image require any license? Will it expire after
certain time?
I was trying to see its performance in over a time.

All instances of WinCE requires license to be legally distributed in a
device. Although platform builder requires license, you may build a fully
working image in the trial period.
I think you may freely try wince in your development board :)

matt_damon
So when you say "freely try wince in your development board", does that
mean it will stop working after maybe 90days or will it work continuously?

Can we buy single wince license without purchasing the platform builder
license? I am using the WinCE image available in this website, so I did
not had to build it. Will it run forever or will it have some problems?

Ergin Akin
Actually I mean, when you decide produce and sell an embedded device with
WinCE running on it, you are expected to buy license. They give a label on
which there is serial number.
Don't worry about building and trying WinCE on development boards. WinCE
image will not expire. However platform builder will expire, you can
re-install it.

thankyou

WinCE is handled by BSquare for Microsoft. BSquare was the original creator
of what is now WincCE. They have offices in many places. The headquarters
is in Bellevue, Washington State (sound familiar?). Licensing for CE
without the MS browser is about $3 and they sell 1000 at a time. As
mentioned, it is a sticker that goes on the board. With Browser I recall
something like $11 to $15 per unit. They also have the licensed version of
Platform Builder (requires VS2005!) for $1000.
