Could not connect to localhost

I am runnig linux 2.6.32.2 on mini2440. I am trying to ping 127.0.0.1 or
localhost it says could not connect to lcoalhsot. can any1 please tell what
can be the issue or what i have to do inorder to run localhost.

What does "ifconfig" tell you about the status of your network interfaces?

thanks for replying. problem solved. interface lo was down. i did up that
interface. pinging went fine.
