Junk characters on hyper terminals
I sometimes get junk characters as well with minicom. I just ignore them. You have software and hardware flow control both set to No? Maybe, try sudo apt-get install microcom USB to serial converters seem to cause problems. Search for those keywords on this forum.
Hi Dave, Where did you buy your mini from? I also used to get junk characters from one of my minis, but after replacing the RS232 level translator IC (3232) and all of its capacitors it resolved the problem and I got no more junk characters. I think it had more to do with the capacitors and not the IC. MC
bluscape, From ebay via Hong Kong. I only get funny characters when devices are plugged in or removed, which I just ignore. The rest of the time minicom ad mini2440 behave consistently. Any thoughts about my USB problem that I am discussing with Juergen? Reply on that thread if you have. Thanks, Dave
Dave, I'm aware of the thread about the USB mouse on the mini but I honestly did not get time to follow the thread. Sorry. MC
MC, The problem has been resolved. The phrase PEBCAK summaries the issue. Qt is compiling for the 10th time and then everything will be "sweet". Dave
Like Phil said, any modem should work with the mini. For complete flow control you can use a USB to serial converter if your modem has a serial interface. I'm not too familiar with WinCE, but it should have a built in modem driver which you can configure to communicate with any standard AT modem on a specified port. This will eliminate the need to manage your modem via AT commands, the driver will do it for you. The modem will then act as a transparent internet connection.
