So I have not powered up the device in about four months and now it is dead. I tried to see what is output on the serial console but nothing showed up. I can see the screen flash, but that is about it. I am using a generic RS-232 adapter and set the speed to 115200. The device needs a straight through cable and not the null modem one, right? Also, how do people typically use the mini J-TAG board that converts mini-J-TAG to 25pin parallel port? I don't have a parallel port on any of my machines.

So I think the device came with a straight through cable, and I was not able to get anything when using picocom. I will try to get another cable tomorrow to see if it was a cable issue. I assume that since the mini J-TAG adapter converts mini-jtag to parallel, I would need a parallel to USB cable.
So nothing gets over serial. What JTAG tool do people successfully use with this board? I believe the JTAGing the NOR pdf mentions connecting the parallel port to the JTAG connector. Has anybody tried using a USB to parallel port adapter?
It is connected via a little bit of hardware. Did you not get the accessories with the mini2440? Search <JTAG wriggler>. Basically, one IC on a small PCB, a parallel connector one end and a connector that plugs into the JTAG port on the mini2440. Dave
I got the JTAG PCB. I am just curious if it is possible to use the USB to parallel adapter to connect the JTAG PCB to the computer. (I don't have a computer that has a parallel port). I can probably dig one up, but was curious if the USB to parallel adapter will work with the H-JTAG software and JTAG PCB.
Is there any kind of requirement on the parallel cable that goes between the JTAG PCB and the parallel port? I tried using a straight through cable and the H-JTAG software could not detect the target. I made sure that the NOR was selected, and I hit the reset button (close to the power LED) a few times.
Hi, RomanC, From my experience, the parallel cable that goes between the JTAG PCB and the parallel port of your PC must be very short, see 10cm. I encountered this problem several years ago (not 2440) when I used a parallel cable 1 m long. After changing to a short cable, everything became fine. You can have a try.
