How to build qt on ubuntu

I'm trying to cross-compile qtopia (for my mini2440) using a linux host and
I am incredibly frustrated.

Are there instructions somewhere, other than untarring arm-qtopia and
running build (or build-all)?

I'm not even 100% clear which compiler to use; there are three on the
mini2440 CD.  I've tried 3.4.1 and 2.95.3 with no success.  There are tons
and tons of warnings; the build scripts blow past errors.

All I'm trying to do is get to the point I can build the "hello" sample
app.

Has anybody gotten this to work?
