Connect Internet via Modem

Gedhang Goreng
Hi Guys,

I want to connect my 3.5" WinCE 6.0 FriendlyARM to internet using modem
(either serial or usb modem). Can anyone help me how to do this? please..

Joan
I have the same problem. I need a 3G USB modem compatible with WINCE6.0

Selwin
Sorry Guys, i Tried the same but with no luck (USB) and WinCE

Dial Up networking with an RS232 GPRS/Edge Modem worked fine though.
But a Simple internet connection wasnt enough in my case, i needed to send
AT Commands to the modem whilst the connection was open and i couldnt get
the multiplexer (GSM 07.10) to work.

So i made my own Dual SIM GPRS board accessed by two RS232 Ports

Selwin: I was wondering what changes you had to make to the OS image in
order to support Dial Up. Once stablished the connection could you open
sockets from your programs to a public internet server?.

It would be very helpfull if someone can share his/her experiencies
regarding USB Stick Modem on WinCE. I know they have made a Huawei modem to
work on Linux, but it would be usefull on Windows CE.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I have a similar problem I'm trying to connect 3G USB modem on mini2440
with Windows CE 5.0. I installed drivers from .cab file (I got them from
the manufacturer) on Windows CE and I configure setting to local provider
but when I try to connect I get error message from windows (Remote
Networking The port is not available: another program may be using it.)

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Josh
Hi, Kristjan

What modem do you have? I've been searching over internet for 3G USB modem
with win ce drivers for days and can't find any? Can you help me?

Thanks.

Kristjan

Dear Friends,

you can also change the modem type from your pc HYPER TERMINAL and then use
it in WinCe .!

Ferite
Hi Ebi:

Your tip is to connect the Board to Internet through the PC?.

Thanks

Eddy
Go for a wireless 3G router. Insert USB 3G Modem into 3G Router.

If your laptop can connect via WIFI.

Dear All Trouble Shooters,

I am impressed with the kind of path you have shown to Embsys. I have
successfully installed PPP on mini2440 and connected to PPP server and thus
internet. But when I run openvpn over ppp-network iam getting the following
error,

TLS negotiation failed to occure within 60 secs (check network
connectivity)

But, I am able to establish connection between openvpn server and client
with normal TCP/IP connection.

Can any one help me in this regard.

With Best Regards,
Nikhil N.D.

Hi Kristjan. I am about to purchase the same modem (one of the few that
supports Windows CE). I am wondering if you could solve this COM port
problem.

Thanks.

I have used a Huawei EC153 which i had updated with new firmware and used
hyper terminal reset it to factory settings. Then i used the following
instruction to establish a connection
This section details the steps involved in connecting to GPRS with Windows
CE's dial-up networking function. Screenshots are provided, to illustrate
the process.
Since all the Dialing options are set in the registry settings, there is
not much need to change the Dialing properties in the Dialing wizard that
pops up when clicked on the Properties of the connection.
Figure 3 shows the settings of the Dialing properties:

 Figure 3) Dialing Properties

Go to the control panel --> Network and Dial up wizard. Click "Make New
Connection."
Type the name of the connection; for example, "GPRS." Select the Connection
type as the Dialup connection. Click "next" to continue. Figure 4 shows the
new connection wizard:
 Figure 4) Make New Connection

Select “Com3” as a modem diver in the “select a modem” option and click
“Configure” button. Fig 5) shows this step.

Figure 5) Select a modem
The "Device Properties" dialog box will open. Leave the port settings tab
as it is, and click the "call options" tab. Figure 6 shows these tabs.

Figure 6) Device properties
In the "call option" add the special initialization command in the text box
as shown in Figure 7. The original command is
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","airtelgprs.com". This AT command may differ from one
service provider to another, so be sure to check with the applicable
service provider for the correct command setting.

Figure 7) call Options
Click "Next" and enter the phone number, *99#, in the phone number dialog
box. Figure 8 shows the phone number dialog box. Click the "finish" button.

Figure 8) Phone Number
The new "GPRS Connection" appears in the network and connection wizard.
Figure 9 shows the new connection:

Figure 9) Network Connections
Right click the "GPRS icon" and click the "Connect" for connecting to GPRS.
Figure 10 depicts this step, and Figure 11 shows that the device has
connected to the GPRS network.

Figure 10) Connect to GPRS.

The device is connecting but if i open the windows explorer it is
terminating the connection because of the baud rate settings. So i am now
looking for a way around the baud rate because the baud rate for the modem
is a max of 460800, while the windows CE menu goes up to 115000

Kristjan
Ferite,

It was a hardware problem, we had to buy a new USB/GPRS dongle with a
working driver. I bought it from same supplier.
