Hi, I have been floating in and out of these forums for some time, and saw some people have making their own kernels for the Mini2440 / Micro2440 boards. I have recently purchase one of these boards (the Mini2440) as a hobby project, and I was wondering if someone could send me a precompiled kernel. I did see jay's own custom kernel, and so I was wondering if someone could compile and send me it as I don't have the tools to actually do the compilation. (For now, I can use the stock kernels - FriendlyARMs' stock ones) However, I don't like the idea of using uboot as I have read that a lot of things can go wrong. So, I intend to use supervivi to boot linux on my Mini2440. I intend to use Debian on the device, and I have a mini Debian ARM Distro ready to go (base install via Qemu ARM Machine emulation ). My setup is: Mini2440 3.5" 240x320 Topoly (?) LCD Touchscreen 256MB NAND Flash 2GB SD Card (will be mounted on /sdcard when booted in Linux) Stock Bootloader, Kernel, etc. Please try to be helpful, don't post short pointless posts, as that really annoys me and I do know a lot about Linux, so I could be a valuable asset.
Precompiled Linux Kernel - Could anyone send me one?
Hello, your post raised my attention because I was just compiling and trying a series of Kernels and filesystems for the mini2440. You only need the DVD that came with the board and a computer to compile a kernel version, nothing else. You read that U-Boot can lead to problems? I doubt it, U-Boot is a very powerfull bootloader, much better then Supervivi. and if you use it incorrectly it will lead to problems just like anything else. If you had used it instead of reading people's reaction to it, you would see just that. I have serious doubts about Debian on such a low power machine, but try and give us your reply. Its always interessting to know. As for your final paragraph I don't have much to say except that it doesn't look like you "know a lot about Linux", if you did, you would never said the things you said. And it's my conviction that's not just my opinion .... Best regards, LDS
Hey, you might want to check EmDebian. http://www.emdebian.org/ I will compile a few kernels for it and put them on my forum. http://mini2440.netyxia.net/
Try the updated stock kernel found around a post in this forum, but I think u-boot is a very good alternative My setup is u-boot and kernel in NAND, rootfs in sd card, works like a charm and I don't destroy the nand flash while trying new rootfs, packages and software every day.
