Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Chances are you're using friendlyarm kernel with a custom FS To solve the problem: Set in the kernel .config file CONFIG_ARM_THUMB=y CONFIG_AEABI=y Or in the make menuconfig System Type->Support Thumb user binaries Kernel Features->Use the ARM EABI to compile the kernel Rebuild the kernel and it should be ok Cheers Paul
i have the same problem
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
and rebuild kernel with System Type->Support Thumb user binaries Kernel Features->Use the ARM EABI to compile the kernel and still have the same error !!!!!
I have asked: which root filesystem you are using? Maybe it is a different command than /linuxrc you need to set in the boot parameters. init=/bin/bash should always work on every linux root filesystem.

Hi Have you solved the issue? We are also facing the same issue with SMDK2450 board. We use cramfs and our bootargs are: root=/dev/ram0 initrd=0x30800000,16M ramdisk=20000 init=/bin/bash console=ttySAC0,115200 mem=64M. Thanks and regards Rajam QMax systems
To track this best would be add to kernel parameter also: user_debug=31 to see why panic occurred. Juts post some lines from end then. Marek
Hi, Thanks - as said we added user_debug=31 to the bootargs and we got message, [1] linuxrc: obsolete system call 00000000. Code: e08f1001 e1a0c000 e3a0702d ef000000 (e3700a01) in the log. Then we took help from net and recompiled the kernel after enabling "Use the ARM EABI to compile the kernel" in "Kernel Features". The issue is resolved now and system is up. Thanks and regards Rajam QMax Systems
I had builded a filesystem using CLFS http://cross-lfs.org/view/clfs-embedded/arm/index.html .... I had converted that CLFS using mkfs tools using command : # mkfs.jffs2 -r clfs -o clfs.jffs2 -e 16 -l -n And ported a clfs.jffs2 on my mini2440 friendly arm .... I found that the manual that comes along with friendly arm board does not have the right hardware information. Identify the NAND flash size and load the binaries accordingly. K9F1208 - 64MB flash K9F1G08 - 128MB flash K9F2G08 - 256MB flash K9F8G08 - 1024MB flash if your flash size is 128MB then load supervivi-128M.img and root-qtopia-128M.img,Dont load the following images supervivi-64M.img and root-qtopia-64M.img.The specified images is for 64M flash. Steps to load: 1.Install the supervivi bootloader 2.Install the kernel. 3.Install the yaffs. choose the appropriate image for right flash size.
To everyone having the "unable to open an initial console. " error: please check if your rootfs has the /dev/console node. I'm not sure, but I think I've had a similar problem.
